Frequently asked carburetor questions

Practically every engine is different, so the carburetor must be fine-tuned on the car and some experience is required. It cannot simply be installed according to one strict procedure; the setting is also related to ignition timing, engine vacuum, and so on.

Fuel is leaking: The cause is the fuel level in the float chamber. It is correctly adjusted, but the float tab can easily be bent, for example if someone throws the parcel. Pump fuel into the chamber and remove the cover. The level must be 19–21 mm below the top edge of the chamber; adjust it if necessary by bending the tab on the float. Also check that the needle valve closes properly, as dirt in the fuel can occasionally clog it.
The mixture adjustment has no effect: Mixture richness is adjusted only by the needle screw on the side. We do not know how this simple part could become damaged; the fault will be elsewhere.
