Converters

Original AZNP series > later Barvy a Laky (Paints and Varnishes) > Present

This is a conversion to later manufactured paints and subsequently an attempt to convert to the most popular RAL system. Please note that the commonly known RAL is usable for a specific paint shop, but because they work with their own paints (PPG, GLAZURIT, STANDOX), they must convert to their own numbers anyway. The procedure for determining the correct paint for a vintage vehicle is outlined in the GENERAL section.

The basis of the table comes from the Barvy a Laky company, and I have supplemented it with my own knowledge. I have found, in any case, that the stated RAL shades are really only approximate.

If the shade is fundamentally different, incomparable with RAL, "0" is indicated in the table. Alternatively, another comparison is given. For shades where a color sample is not available (color standard, spray test), "?" is indicated in the overview.

The fundamental problem is that in today's paint shop, any old or obsolete nitrocellulose paint numbers usually won't help you anyway. The paint shop requires numbers for current modern paints. So the most important thing is still to have the physical appearance of the shade (metal panel or color chart) and then convert it to the paint shop's charts, working with the given paint brand (Standox, PPG, Glazurit...).

Frequent question about the current shade of red for FELICIE: vintage car enthusiast Mr. Gazda (gazda.pavel@volny.cz) states RAL 3020: "I searched according to the numbers you mention, and only in the Czech Republic paint archive did they give me contact to a gentleman who was the author of the paint catalog in Czechoslovakia, and the conversion to RAL is the closest I can state. I have it on my Felicia and I am satisfied, I can send a photo."
