Lighting development

Information and materials by Ladislav Douša

This overview illustrates the gradual development of the rear lights on the Škoda 1202 between 1959 and 1965. The accompanying photos show each stage of design changes, reflecting the evolution of both appearance and wiring.

1 = First prototype from 1959.

2 = Modified version from no. 1 (also 1959).

3 = These lamps entered serial production between 1961–1962 – the same types were used in older 706 RTO buses.

4 = The year 1963 brought lamps with red upper parts and the original wiring.

5 = The last version from 1965 – orange top, red bottom, with new wiring.

In Mr. Gereg’s book there is a diagram of both variants. It shows that lamps no. 2 and 4 are the same, which is confusing because slimmer lamp no. 3 was between them. Of course, the reflectors also changed.
