Intermediate type
Transition model – the first version of the Škoda Octavia. (Not counting various improvised assemblies at the start of production.) Its design – “something between the Octavia and the Spartak” – is why it’s often referred to as a transition type. It already featured the modernized front axle with coil springs from the Octavia, but the interior and grille remained transitional, and the body lacked the typical rear fender fins – which is why most people mistake it for a Spartak.
Interestingly, during the launch of these “Octavias,” cars were still being assembled from leftover parts, resulting in “Škoda 440, 445 with Octavia bodywork” – essentially Spartaks with the old chassis but already fitted with the newer Octavia body.
