Tow bar

There are many types of two-wheeled trailers suitable for towing with a Škoda 440 or Škoda Octavia automobile. In this chapter, we will not deal with the trailers themselves, but rather with the design of the tow bar equipment, which can be easily manufactured and adapted to all types of Škoda 440, Škoda Octavia, and Škoda Octavia Combi vehicles from the 43rd series onwards.

The trailer hitch must meet several requirements. It must be sufficiently strong, but not unnecessarily heavy or over-dimensioned – and thus too heavy. It is therefore worthwhile to use quality materials. The equipment must be removable, fixed in the longitudinal axis of the car to the most solid part (12). A hemispherical cavity is machined into it. On the upper part of the hitch, bearings are welded for the lever (13), which secures the inserted ball of the trailer coupling. The outer end of the lever is secured by a rotating safety catch (14) with a handle and strong spring.
